Energy Efficiency for Europe joined 32 organisations in co-signing a joint letter to European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen on 15 April, highlighting the critical role of energy efficiency in strengthening Europe’s energy independence, in the context of rising geopolitical instability and energy prices.

The letter calls for energy efficiency to be placed at the heart of the EU’s energy security strategy, alongside the development of a concrete action plan to enable the large-scale deployment of cross-sectoral, quick-to-deploy solutions across buildings, industry, and transport.

As noted in the letter, such solutions contribute directly to:

  • Reducing energy demand and overall system costs;
  • Accelerating electrification across sectors;
  • Strengthening competitiveness and resilience against price volatility.

Energy Efficiency for Europe, together with its co-signatories, therefore calls for the full and accelerated implementation of existing EU legislation, as well as the fast-tracking of permitting, financing, and investment frameworks to enable rapid uptake across Member States.
