Represented by Secretary General Valérie Plainemaison and Polish representative Tomasz Surma, of the federation’s member Veolia Poland, Energy Efficiency for Europe participated in the European Economic and Social Committee’s (EESC) TEN Section debate “EU Electrification Action Plan: Accelerating Europe’s Clean Energy Transition” in Brussels.

As electrification rises up the EU policy agenda with the upcoming Electrification Action Plan, the discussion explored how Europe can strengthen competitiveness, accelerate decarbonisation and build a more resilient energy system.

Energy Efficiency for Europe emphasised that the Energy Efficiency First (EE1) principle remains crucial for optimising investment in electricity production, grid infrastructure and distribution, ensuring that electrification is delivered in the most cost-effective way possible.

Valérie and Tomasz also underlined that thermal solutions are an important ally alongside electrification, particularly at local level, and that a successful energy transition will require integrated approaches to heating and cooling that strengthen both system flexibility and energy security.
