From 9 to 11 June 2026, Energy Efficiency for Europe attended the 2026 edition of the Euroheat & Power Congress, which took place in Krakow, Poland. As one of Europe’s key events dedicated to district heating and cooling (DHC), the Congress brought together industry leaders, policymakers, and practitioners to advance the implementation of the clean heat transition across Europe.
District heating and cooling plays a central role in delivering efficient, local, and low-carbon energy solutions for buildings and industry (read more here). The Congress provided a platform to exchange on how to scale these solutions and accelerate decarbonisation across the sector.
The 2026 edition focused on the practical delivery of the heat transition, including:
- Insights into the Polish market and broader European developments in DHC
- The launch of the 2026 DHC Market Outlook, providing an overview of key trends shaping the sector
- Discussions with utilities and operators on challenges and implementation strategies
- An exhibition showcasing technologies and solutions supporting the future of district heating and cooling
Speakers consistently underlined the central role of district heating and cooling (DHC) in decarbonising Europe’s heating and cooling sector, with a presentation by the International Energy Agency (IEA) on its latest report on Renewables in District Energy reinforcing the need to place district energy solutions higher on the political agenda.
Throughout the Congress, regulatory stability emerged as one of the strongest recurring messages. Panellists highlighted efficiency, accessibility and predictability as being essential conditions for accelerating investment in clean heating and cooling solutions. Discussions also placed a particular spotlight on waste heat recovery from industry and data centres, as well as the growing role of waste cold in meeting Europe’s increasing cooling demand.
Beyond the conference programme, a highlight was the ‘District Divas’ coffee break, which provided a nice occasion for women from across the district heating and cooling sector to connect, exchange perspectives and celebrate their contribution to Europe’s heat transition.
With over 500 professionals in attendance, the Congress offered a valuable opportunity for knowledge exchange and business development across the district heating and cooling value chain.
